Description

I was asked to coordinate a virtual production for a bachelor thesis from Motion Picture students. The scene is playing in space and an astronaut who is on the space station ISS and is looking out of the window. There she is seeing the LED wall through the window. In the virtual world she can see the earth and two satellites.

Team and Studio

We had the chance to shoot in Rising Pheonix virtual production studios in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Daniel is the CEO of the studio and he was guiding us in his studio. Mainly he uses the LED Wall for photography. But he wanted to learn with us more about virtual production. Khayyam is a study colleague of mine and a good Unreal Artist. The studio is running with the Unreal Engine 5 and the camera tracking system was from HTC. Khayyam and I delivered the whole unreal project. He was focusing a little bit more about the graphics and I on the technical stuff.

My Roles

In this project I was head of virtual production. I was setting up the project and constantly in contact with the producer and director. We organised one visit day to the studio and one test day before the actual shooting. On this days we learned a lot, what can go wrong and what we have to figure out for the shooting. Luckily at the end everything worked on the shooting day and the team was happy about the result.
